Default Milky Way much bigger than thought

So! Our galaxies will collide BEFORE our sun burns out!

WASHINGTON — Take that, Andromeda!

For decades, astronomers thought when it came to the major galaxies in Earth's cosmic neighbourhood, our Milky Way was a weak sister to the larger Andromeda. No more.

Bigger? Size, density, weight, etc... (this time, mass it seems)
It seems like these two sisters keep up thier family squabble.
The Milky way gets bigger: When did the milky way get bigger again???
Andromeda gets 3x bigger: Andromeda Galaxy 3x bigger than thought
And bigger yet: The Andromeda Galaxy: Even Bigger Than You Thought

I really wish that they would concentrate on what technologies they used and how they differed.
I am interpreting that this is the first time the speed was determined by change in position rather than using red-shifts.

The paper makes sense but is not the final word on the size of the Milky Way, said Mark Morris, an astrophysicist at the University of California Los Angeles, who was not part of the study.
Now there's a nice detailed analysis.

Well they still have the biggest Galactic Black Hole at 30M Solar mass instead of our 4M one, as for the rest once again it will require more observations.

very interesting indeed.
could it be the satellite dwarf's getting swallowed ?
and also does the rotation period around the galaxy change any of our thot's on evolution?

I've spent most of my life feeling inferior because Andromeda was bigger than the Milky Way. I feel much better now.

I could never remember which was bigger. Maybe I was in denial.

We're always bigger. Even when we're not, we're still bigger, 'cause that's just the way it is.
