How many galaxies are estimated to be in the visible universe?

The Hubble telescope imaged its famous "million second" image and about 10,000 galaxies were found within the image. Extrapolating this for the entire sky yields about 131 billion galaxies visible to the Hubble Telescope.

Another ultra deep field image was done by the HST in the Southern hemisphere to help affirm this extrapolation, and it did.
