You were right tuffel...that was the embarassing typo in the subject line...boy, you must have read it in the minute between the time I posted it and the time I edited it ops:

A near enough figure is 300,000 kilometres per second.

That means light (or a radio signal) takes about 1.3 seconds to go from the Earth to the Moon, or just over 8 minutes to travel from the Sun to the Earth.

No no no. That's the speed of light you've given. The quote from the article refers to the rate at which the "speed of light" travels. That's a whole nother (BAD) question. -hence the ops:

I suppose the speed of light could travel at the speed of light, if encoded as information on a modulated radio wave. But unless the folks on the receiving end know how we encode information, it may take them a bit longer to figure out what we're trying to say! :P
