I'll have to pull out an old National Geographic from the Pathfinder landing. They had a bunch of 3D photos and it came with a few sets of 3D glasses.

lol, I've been using a couple of wratten filters. I must be cheap not to go out and buy 3d glasses

I bought plastic sheets of red and blue spotlight filters at the local rock-and-roll stage supply store. They work nicely, and when I get around to it, I'll attach pieces of them to an old pair of clip-on sunglasses.
Photo supply shops don't seem to sell plastic filter assortments anymore.

Actually what I did (and this is not the best method) but use two of the clear Red and Blue Lego Pieces, they seem to work pretty well with me

What you are looking for for online viewing is red/cyan glasses.

I've found that the processing of the anaglyphs done by someone using the handle Jewill is actually far superior to the NASA/JPL versions I've seen so far.

One manufacturer has this to say about spending a little more for a pair of plastic glasses rather than just cardboard ones:

"We have something no other glasses manufacturer is offering; Diopter correction of the INNATE focus problem caused by RED filters set close to the eye. “Optical Physics 101” would tell you that the 3 primary colors fall into focus at different points on the retina when you are watching a close 3D display, such as a computer or TV monitor. Hence, the RED filtered eye gets a very much softer image than the CYAN which passes most of the color information. Paper/gel anaglyph glasses are very poor through the RED lens, for this reason, and are flimsy & impossible to clean."

If you ever run across the 1978 NASA book The Martian Landscape, which has traditional black and white stereo pairs, it's a worthy addition to your library. Don't know if the stereo images of the Viking sites are available online.

...ah hah...ah HAH! THAT'S what the eye doctor was talking about...

My last eye test had a very simple addition to it...the regular eye chart, but projected on a red background, then a green one. One was out of focus, the other'n wasn't -- yet the color background could be removed, and there was the chart on a white screen, perfectly focused...the chart never moved or changed, just the background...

Green and red have different wavelengths, and focus at different depths in the eyeball (if I remember this theory right). Depending on whether you're near- or far-sighted will determine whether the green or the red one looks out of focus. It's not the letters of the chart that are fuzzy, it's the field edges where it goes from the black of the letter to the color of the background -- change or remove the color, and the fuzz goes away.

That's what these guys are talking about...how interesting...

And by the way...regarding various color filters, their color responses, getting some raw materials, and maybe doing some experimentation on just what works with what...

If you have a Discovery Channel Store at your Mall, they've been giving out anaglyph glasses in connection with an upcoming show on Mars. Also, you can do a Google search for "free 3d glasses." Rainbow Symphany sends them out for a SASE.

Do you have the details on the Discovery Channel Mars program?

I got myself a pair of the "real" 3D glasses rather than the cardboard ones, and I'm very pleased with the improvement it makes on the whole viewing experience.

Nope. No details on the website that I could see. Just saw that the store was passing out the glasses. I agree that the plastic ones are better. They don't cost that much and will last a lifetime.
