Default Sky and Telescope magazine, Feb 2004 issue

For years, I've collected Sky & Telescope from a local newsagent. But so far, there's no sign of the Feb 2004 issue. On their web site, they've moved on to the March issue. But the back issues page only goes to Jan 2004. Does the Feb issue exist? Has it disappeared into a black hole?

I'm just wondering if anyone has seen one.

Thanks, I was wondering if there had been a problem with publishing. I finally found a copy in Borders yesterday. They import directly from the US. There's still no sign of the Feb issue in W. H. Smith - and the Feb issue says the March issue was published about a week ago in the US. So it may well 'leap' an issue in the UK .

The cover story is: "Life on Mars? The question that won't go away."

I picked up the March issue last Saturday (2/7/04 or 7/2/04 for our British posters).

For years, the publication schedules of magazines has bamboozled me...five weeks, sometimes almost six between issues, then you get three issues in thirty days...I know there's a reason for it, but be doggoned if I can figger it out...

The one that beats 'em all is MAD Magazine...there's a 'display until' date on the cover, and when that date comes, off the shelf they go...

My personal opinion? If you want to be an informed citizen, there are required reading assignments:

Your local fishwrap
Time/Newsweek or the equivalent
MAD Magazine
and Reader's Diigest for relaxation.

Even better... when my subscription to Air & Space was renewed recently, sometime around the last week of January, I first got the March issue on a Thursday or Friday... then I got the January issue the next Tuesday... and I still haven't seen hide nor hair of a February issue, although that might be a 10-issue year where they have some issues for two months (though that wasn't indicated on the cover).
