I have a 10 inch dobsonian telescope and would like to take some astrophotos with it. I write drivers for industrial digital cameras so that they can be used with the frame grabbers that my company produces. I had been thinking about buying a CCD camera for this but then it occured to me that I have a desk full of CCD cameras that get sent to me by manufacturers for me to test and support. These cameras are very high end. Much more expensive than anything I could afford. Most in the 2 to 15 thousand dollar range. Most of these cameras are grey scale and vary from 8 to 12 bit with a few 16 bit cameras thrown in every now and then. Also they are mostly visible spectrum cameras but occasionally I get a near IR camera for a couple of months to play with. The problem I have is that while some of these cameras use a standard Nikkor F mount lens, most of them use a C mount lens. Where can I find an adapter for one of these? I have never done any astrophotography other than holding a Nikon Coolpix 5700 up to my eyepiece and taking lunar photographs. Do I need to have something that will hold an eyepiece in front of the C-mount lens? I'm not sure how to configure this kind of setup. Could someone give me some advice?
