Thumbs up The Dumbbell Nebula

Taken at the Oregon Star Party, USA. With Canon 20Da, Teleview 60mm refractor on a Losmandy mount. One 6 min exposure @f800.

Nice! Tracking is a bit off though, but it sounds like you don't have a drive on the 'scope. Did you guide by hand?

The colors are interesting. I guess this is "true color". The red color is from hydrogen, and the blue-green from oxygen. The colors are interesting: the red is along the "caps", while the green appears to be coming from the middle and bursting out the sides. I'll have to think about that; I used to study planetary nebulae. You can learn a huge amount just by carefully examining the images and applying some physics.

Default Dumbbell Nebula

I didn't use any guiding, which I should have. I cropped and pumped up the contrast but made no color changes. It was 1st light for my Canon20Da so I was happy just to get some pictures I do like the colors though. They seem natural but only in the eye's of the beholder.
