It's a wee while since I have contributed to this forum. Nights are getting dark much earlier now and we get the odd clear sky as well !!

Here is my first reasonable attempt at Mars.

After the rain stopped and gaps appeared in the clouds on 23 October 2005 at 0100h-0200h BST(0000h-0100h UT) it was time to remove the plastic sheeting from the scope and camera.

I used my 8" SCT at f/10, Nikon Coolpix 5700 digital camera afocally attached to a 15mm Plossl eyepiece with 2x Barlow.

Multiple images were taken in RAW (NEF) format, and combined manually (first image), or using Registax (second image), and further processed using Adobe Photoshop CS.

Wow! That is the same Mars I have in the USA!

I am playing.

I like the pictures. I don't do astrophotography but I like looking with filters. Do you use filters to make your pictures?

Until seeing your non webcam image, I had pretty much lost hope in getting a good Mars picture afocally, but now I see what can be done. Thanks for the inspiration. Great imaging.

I don't use filters for my images taken with the CP5700. I have just purchased a Meade DSI Pro where I need to use IR RGB filters to compile a composite colour image from the monochrome CCD setup.

I use Adobe Photoshop CS to optimise my images.
