Default Christmas Eve: Venus & Orion

This is my first ever attempt at astrophotograpy with the Digital RebelXT my father-in-law gave to my wife and I for our wedding. On Christmas day we hiked into the crather of Haleakala National Park on Maui and camped in the wilderness around 7000ft. Absolutely, the most breathtaking view of the Heavens I have ever witnessed. We live about 70 miles from this park, and I plan on making many return trips--camera in tow-- in the future. I'm a newbie to this forum, hopefully you'll see some more from me in the future.

Venus, setting behind the crater wall above our campsite: 17mm, f18, 10-second exposure
Orion: 17mm, f4.0, 30-second exposure

Beautiful shot of Venus behind the crater. I really like the framing.

Nice shots. I second Andy's comment about the first photo. Lucky for you that you live near these beautiful views--look forward to seeing more of them.
