Thumbs up Incredible Saturn last Night!!!!!

Finally a seriously good clear night!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I invited fellow MVAS member Ron Whitehead over to my observatory last night to do some planet imaging, boy were we in for an amazing surprise…

Here are our shots of Saturn Last night……………we took it through an 11 inch diameter scope(C-11), using my Toucam Pro 2 PC webcam attached to the telescope with a 2.8x Barlow lens giving F28, an effective FL of 7,823 mm, we captured a 60 second avi file, Then ran through the 1000 frames and chose the best 376 frames and stacked them in Registax 2 (free software). We took a bunch of images between 2:00 and 4:00 this morning from my observatory at John Bryan State Park, in Yellow Springs, Ohio.

Also Saturn is at opposition on the 27th of January 2006 or furthest from the Sun, some 887+ million miles away,

My best shots of Saturn in about 4 years. The Earth’s atmosphere is constantly blurring here in Ohio, thus rarely allows us good or perfect seeing, last night was an exception…..it may be another 4 years before we get another good night for planets. But we keep checking each night just in case.
Patience is the Key for Midwest observers…………

So remember, never give up....persistance is crucial,
besides everyone gets lucky once in a while.

Thanks for viewing......and comments!

Wonderful!! I never done any planet imaging; I think I'll give it a try this year if I can tear myself away from the DSO!

Hi John. Your saturn photos are great. Your first photo is the cleanest photo of Saturn I have ever seen from a telescope of that size. Good job to you and your friend. Later Paul.

Magnificent shot!

Looks like the seeing, scope, imaging, and expertise all came together!

Thanks everyone..........getting the seeing to cooperate around here is tough, but every once in a while we get lucky!

The storm should be visible in my image from the 24th......

I will check my raw data to be sure the new storm wasn't processed out by registax wavelett.

Wow! Great image taken of Saturn! It must be the planet I see in the East, Northeast sky rising around 11-12 central.
