Piggy Backing on 8" Orion w/ EQ mount
Hey guys,
I've had an 8" Newtonian for over 4 years now. I can't remember what the model was -- they've since replaced it in their catalogs. Anyways, I've always wanted to do Astrophotography with it, but I know the current EQ mount just isn't up to par. But I thought I could do some Milky Way's and wide fields by piggy backing my Canon EOS 300D DR on it.
What drives do you reccomend to track? I will probably need something where I can adjust the the speed on both axies. To check that the tracking is going okay, I was considering hooking up a modified webcam into the eye piece, and focusing on a single star and watching on my laptop to ensure it isn't drifting (probably will need to overlay something on the image like a cross).
What do you guys have to say?
