Ooh, crepuscular rays streaming through billowing stratocumulus clouds.
<---goofy smile, not a razz.
You know,
Paul, you get so many varied sunsets and you just keep getting better and better. I envision a coffee-table book of
Sunsets of Western Pennsylvania. I haven't been to PA for years (last time was in Hershey and both major airports), but I know from driving down from New York on I-81 onward to Texas that there are nice vistas for sunsets, autumn trees, and star-gazing. Your collection is growing...are you setting them up on a site or something?
Your mom's explanation is sweet, but I'll mention some info on crepuscular rays. They won't let me cut and paste, but there's a brief explanation with photos. (yours is better). There are also "anticrepuscular rays" which you see when you turn your back on the sun, and they emanate outwards towards the east. I don't see those, do you?

Thanks.
