this is only observable from the southern hemisphere right?
in that case, thank you for sharing this delight with those of us who can't see them!

Wow. How often do you see somethiing like this?

Actually I hate rhetorical questions. The answer is: just this once.

Wow.

Actually, come to think of it, I'd like to post this picture on my blog later this week. May I? I'd need some info, like when and where it was shot.

Shalom, that is beautiful! Did you use the 70mm lens with the Canon Da? I have GOT to get one of those.

Sorry for this late reply everyone.
Thank you once again for your replies.

This was taken on a property outside Sydney at around 5 AM Local time.
I used the 20Da with a Canon 200mm f/2.8 piggybacked on a EM200 mount.
Total exposure was approx 21 minutes @ 1600 ISO (17 sub frames) stacked using Registar and Levels and Curves in Photoshop.

Phil yes you may post it in your blog, most welcome.

Thank you for allowing me to share it with you, it was an amazing sight to say the least.

Today's first picture on Spaceweather looks awfully familiar.

(I'd do a screen shot, but I'm at work)

*Note, too, the very cute and creative photo of a sun halo below Shalom's photo.

Actually, Shalom, I saw the picture on Spaceweather. Did you submit it, or did Tony Phillips see it here? Hmmmm. :-)

I submitted it to Spaceweather, Phil.
Actually that version was the first one I did. I was so excited that morning (about 5.30am) that I went and processed it straight away. I was tired and hadn't any sleep that night.
A few days later I reprocessed it and this is the result.

Cheers
