I was hoping to get a shot fo the ISS, followed by Discovery on Saturday, but the launch was scrubbed due to weather. I did get a shot of the ISS on Saturday though.

Thanks guys! Glad you like it. I wish the ISS/Shuttle were going to make some more passes, but then again, we have clouds here for the week. It's in the period now where all passes are in daylight so it can't be seen, then it once again comes up again early in the morning before sunrise in the very end of July. I'm a night person, so getting up at 4am just doesn't work very well for me - yeah, I'm a slacker astronomer! Think of looking at an airplane flying over with a pair of binoculars. As it comes toward you, it appears to rotate around so you see the front of the plane, then the middle and finally the tail as it passes away from you. This is the same thing with the ISS since it kind of "flies" the same way, but the living quarters are always paralell with the earth so it only appears to rotate. |

Well that thing just zipped by me last night. One man stopped, positioned himself in the same direction as I, and looked up to the sky, too. I pointed out to him what I was looking at, and he replied, "Oh, I thought something was wrong with you."

I always think it's funny when I see the ISS pass over. Sometimes I don't even know what time it is supposed to pass, but I see it and know that is what it is since it's the only thing that bright in the sky moving West to East.
I have shown it to people and often I get the response "You can't see the space station, it's out in space!". I then explain for a few minutes and hopefully make them realize that it can be seen. *sigh* Tom |
