Default The Horsehead imaged with an ETX 70!

Folks

I am rather pleased to have been able to finally (!) capture the Horsehead with an ETX 70

imaged last Friday (17 Nov)
stack of 25 thirty second images
camera -Orion Starshoot Deep Space Imager
ETX in polar alignment on a home made wedge
Processed in photoshop
I had to shoot with the camera binned 2 x 2 so it's only a B and W image unfortunately and image scale is small

But I'm just happy to actually capture this most elusive object with my little ETX 70

comments and critique welcome

Excellect shot. It's amazing what you can do with even a small scope.

Well Done.

Oh cool! You can see the little seahorse head quite nicely.

Great job, Seeker!

Wow! That is absolutely amazing for a very small scope (I have one also). It's good to see someone taking the time to "coax" a very hard image from the sky with this scope. Great capture! How dark are the skies from this observing site? I wonder if I could do the same with any of my scopes, using a Canon 20D and taking multiple images, from the light-polluted skies where I live (25 mile northwest of Los Angeles, California)

Congratulations!

Hi seeker372011 - I had a quick question. I like the frame you've used around your image. Is this something that either comes, or is easy to make with Photoshop? I have the CS version. It would be nice to put something around a couple of my images. Also, do you know what font this is? I like it!

Thanks

I use Noel Carboni's astro tools for creating frames- and doing all sorts of other cool stuff as well

as for the font..dont know I 'm sorry I just picked something randomly!! That should teach me to pay more attention to what I'm doing

Thnak you

My skies are atrocious..horrendous light pollution as I live on the western edges of Sydney

A caution though...I found that the ETX couldnt handle the weight of a Canon 300d-the so called Digital Rebel-so I am not sure it can handle the weight of a 20 D

but with other scopes and mounts-should be a cinch-as long as you can track accurately for 30 to 45 seconds and stack say 50 to 60 such images

try this site

http://www.mindspring.com/~jeffpo/hrsefind.htm

its easy to know where the HH is ..its not all that easy to sight visually or even image..I know some people claim to have seen it with binos but I can personally attest to having failed to sight it with any clarity or detail through a 20 inch Obsession with a H beta filter from a really dark site

it is an elusive object..it took me about two years of trying-on and off- to finally bag it however imperfectly
