Default The Tuesday Evening ISS and Discovery Pass, 2006/12/19

The Discovery had separated from the ISS shortly before this pass on December 19. Through my 15x70 binocular two bright objects were plainly visible, but they could not be resolved as such by the unaided eye. This made this pass one of the most exciting ones that I've ever witnessed.

The bright star in the first photo is Vega. The second shot shows the pair as they traversed the northern sky.

Hi Dave - thanks for your two posts on this. I don't think we had a shot at seeing it here in the Los Angeles area - at least when I went to Heavens-Above.com it indicated no visible passes.

Great capture! Isn't it neat to know that we've got other human beings circling the globe in these metal boxes, and it's even better now that we know Discovery has safely landed at KSC.

Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year to you and yours!

Paul
