Default Can anyone identify this?

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I saw a very bright object in the sky tonight and wondered if anyone knows what it is.

I took this picture at about 17:15 (14th Jan 07) in London, facing west. The object in question disappeared over the horizon at about 17.55 and when low on the horizon constantly appeared to change colour and intensity quite dramatically, from a pin point of white light to a blur of red.

I thought it may be Venus, but I believe Venus would have set much earlier.

Any ideas?

Most of the Starmap programs will give you a current location of all the planets. It'll save you time and embarrassment if you look into them.
And yes, it is a pretty picture, no problem there.
