Default M97, Owl Nebula

Well, it's been a long time since I posted anything here. This is mainly due to a long run of cloudy skies. I've also changed scopes, and as you all know there is a learning curve with anything new.

Here is a test image taken with a 12" LX200R OTA. I've never imaged at focal lengths longer than 1500mm so this has been interesting. I've had to greatly improve my guiding and lower my periodic error.

This image has some faults in it but I think it is not too bad for a test.

Best,
Tom

Hi Tom

Nice test for your new 12 inch. I know when you get the learning curve down we will see some great photos. Later Paul

Nice photo - I particularly like the fact that you can see faint, distant galaxies in the background

great shot !

The image scale took me, at least, by surprise.

I think your new scope is going to produce some beauties

Cool, Tom! It's very pretty. Thanks for sharing. I don't think we've seen an Owl Nebula here before.

And it's a much better image than SEDS has:

BTW, Lord Rosse's drawing is pretty funny, I have to admit.

Thank you all for the kind comments. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to use this scope/camera combo.
