I guess by the lack of responses so far, everyone is still waiting for their favourite to be produced, or can't think of a single one they've already seen, and instead they have too many to list.

I really can't say I have a favourite. I find most astronomical images awe-inspiring.

If you narrow it down to photos posted on this forum, the Jupiter movies by Iceman (Mike) with its moons would be my favorite. But very hard to choose between the DSO's by Stargazer (Diets) and those by Jaicoa. They are all magnificent.

One of my favourites is this infrared image of the Eagle nebula:

I guess I have asked a pretty broad question but it still isn't quite as broad as the common question 'what is your favourite photo?' which most people would manage to answer

I think Torsten has a point here. This seems to me a fruitless exercise. What is the purpose of all this?

Are you talking about Earthrise?
If your thinking about "the blue marble" that was from apollo 17.

It's a bit of fun, it doesn't have to have a point. I've been thinking about space photography because I recently bought a DVD slideshow called 'Out There' (I got it from panoramica.com, but I think you can get it from amazon too). It has some beautiful images on it and (in starting this thread) I was hoping to see more photos of space that I haven't already seen, that's all

I understand what you are aiming at.
But, this section of the forum is intended for members to show off their OWN work and not those of others. Then other members are invited to comment and advise. It would defeat the purpose of this section if we post images from other sources except to illustrate a point and THEN the source MUST be acknowledged.
I can assure you that if you systematically browse through the posts, you will come across countless fantastic images that you have never seen before.

Phil
