Default Veil Nebula East finally done.

I finally was able to get some red data for NGC6992 and therefore was able to finish its processing. The moon last night was blood red from the wildfire smoke from the 40 some odd fires burning in my region. Fortunately the portion of sky where Cygnus was residing was not nearly as affected.

I found this nebula challenging to process -- too many stars and many subtle filaments that hid among them. Color balance was challenging too; I guess due to the atmospheric smoke filter!

Great wide field shot. I hadn't even heard of that scope before. Getting one past the wife may be a problem!

Nice!
I need to get my DSLR modified so I don't have that darn IR filter in there. I have a 10D and I have a hard time with nebulas. This is my best Veil that I could come up with. Time for a modified camera!

Default Veil

Thanks guys!
Mine is nothing compared to Tom Davis' photo above though. His is amazing.

But I did this under very light polluted skies, and a non-modified Canon 10D, so the nebula parts were very difficult to pull out. I actually took this using MaxDSLR software, and got lucky when I re-combined the RGB channels. That software just doesn't get along with me well at all, and I always have trouble when it comes to the color. I've mostly used it for Autoguiding, and use DSLRFocus for imaging, stack, align, calibrate and initial processing with Images Plus, then finish up with photoshop.

I think I'm now in the market for a modified Canon 350D as an upgrade so I can get more IR/Red in my images.

Oh, when I mention light polluted, see where I'm at here -

The bright white part is Seattle, and I'm just over in the Red at the big "+".

Nice huh?

Just to "one up" you on light pollution, see the attached map. I'm in the bright white under the big "+"

But I won't stop looking and imaging!

Hey Tom,

How about giving NASA some pointers, eh?

Andy,
Your images are amazing despite your very unfavorable location. That hast to be much worse than here in Seattle. At least your Clear Sky Clock as a lot more of the "dark stuff" than mine has lately.

I gave up and found a guy who is selling me a modified Canon 350D that should arrive in a few days. The Veil, coccoon, and N. America will be some of my first 'red' targets. The Canon 10D just doesn't do it very well. I can't wait!
(darn these clouds and clear skies only when the moon is full!)
