Default Aurigid Meteor ALERT!!! One Captured already!

Hi ALL,

One of my Meteor Cameras was pointing North East this morning and captured this Early Aurigid Meteor.

The Camera was mounted on a tripod in my backyard in Dayton, Ohio.

The Camera was a PC164C Sony Ex view Super HAD Video Camera (Supercircuits.com) with a 6mm F2.0 wide angle lens(Toucam Pro lens) and is what I’m currently using at least until my more sensitive all sky camera is finished.

I used a software program called UFO-Capture http://sonotaco.com/e_index.html to capture one of the first Aurigids of 2007.

I estimated the meteor to be about 0.1 magnitude, I made a quick animation/illustration of the brighter stars and constellations, including Mars.

I will reduce the original 37megabyte video to a smaller mpeg movie for the web, likely later this evening.

We will soon see if this ancient comet debris trail ends up providing us a new meteor showers, as predicted.

http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2...g_aurigids.htm

Remember Saturday morning Sept.1st (tomorrow) the new Aurigid Shower is supposed to peak.
Although they give an estimated time of 5:00am PST, I would start looking after midnight until dawn, just in case, as these things are very difficult to predict accurately.

As you can see from my image this one came 24 hours Early!

Good catch!

My wife and I were watching the gibbous Moon rise about 9:00 PM last night and we saw two very bright meteors originating almost directly overhead, both heading from north to south. Can't be sure they were Aurigids though.

Default More Aurigids Meteors Pics from this mornings peak!

Hi All,

Here are the results from last nights/mornings(9-1-2007) Aurigid Meteor Peak, with the bright moonlight and city lights from the Midwest.

I captured 4 altogether, but the last 3 were all within an 8 minute period centered around 5:30am Local Time.

I will process the avi movies later, but for now here are the still images from those Meteors. PC164C SuperHad low light video camera and 6mm F2.0 lens & UFOCapture Software.

Pointing North East, the two bright stars at the top of the house chimney are Castor and Pollux on the last 3 images.

The last 3 Aurigid meteors were capture just before Dawn here in Dayton, Ohio.

Stay tuned, I'll be posting the original AVi movies here, If I can find time to get around to compressing them for the web first.

Any other visual reports or images are welcome to post to this thread!

What did you all see?
Thanks,
