Default Home of the Elephant, IC 1396

Hi everyone,

Just finished processing the luminance data for this interesting emission nebula. Lot's going on in this immense cloud. The tell tale glow of stellar formation on the rim of the elephants trunk was intriguing, as well as the intense blackness of the Bok Globules.

Still working on gathering color data, but wanted to share the Ha image. This is 80 minutes worth of Ha data taken with an FSQ 106 and STL 11000.

Take care,
Kent

A great reminder that the Elephant Trunk is just a small part of a very interesting nebula.

Very crisp and sharp. Great job bringing in all that faint nebulosity.

Congratulations on your excellent image, Kent.

Two years ago I saw the dark Elephant Trunk Nebula visually using the 30" Tectron at New Mexico Skies.

Thanks Dave. That must have been an experience. Is that at Mike Rice's location?
