Default A piece of the Witch's Broom

A study in red and blue.

I can't begin to fit it all in without a 3 or 4 image mosaic so here's part of it. The rest will have to wait for another year as it is getting too low now for good seeing. Can you spot the one galaxy in the image? At least I've found only one.

Absolutely wonderful detail in the shock fronts. Agreed, a mosaic of this detail wiil be quite an achievement. You set a very high standard Rick.

Kind regards

Now Name That Galaxy!

Good eyes. It is a tiny guy. It is easier to see in the full size image. I had to reduce it to meet the bandwidth requirements.

The only info I can find on it is the 2masx catalog info which just says it is a galaxy and its coordinates are the catalog number.
2MASX J20461089+3055153

There're at least 3 more I can find in the full size image. Next easiest is at the very near the top left corner in a triangle of faint stars. The left one being slightly orange. It is smaller and more edge on. It too is a 2masx galaxy
2MASX J20462496+3104184
I didn't think it was in this reduced image but now that I look again I see it.

The others are seen only on the full size image as they look like 19th magnitude stars at this scale.

Rick

Hi Rick.

Lovely image !

Thanks for sharing once again your photos.

Although it's not anymore Haloween for the Witch's Broom , it's sure does look merryful and festive in colors of blue and red in this Yuletide season .

Really nice photo Rick. As for your galaxies, I can barely see the one left of center, the other - forget it. Guessing your field of view to be approx. 30 X 15 arcminutes, I queried NED. Here is the result - after removing the Radio Sources -

Unfortunately, the board squeezes out all the spaces from the list - otherwise you may be able to actually align the columns.
