Hi everyone,
I have been trying to capture data between clouds out here in California. It's been overcast for the last couple of weeks, so I decided to process what I had. This of course is a very familiar object...M42/43 and NGC1977 (Running Man Nebula). I noticed a green hue surrounding M42 and NGC1977 and wondered if I had gone astray somewhere in the processing train. Then I came across some information about this green hue in most M42 images. I hadn't noticed it before. Apparently is was thought to be a mysterious new element called "Nebulium" in the early 20th century. It is now understood to be doubly ionized Oxygen. Thanks for taking a look. http://www.pbase.com/kvwood/image/91640375 (NGC1977 and M42 region) http://www.pbase.com/kvwood/image/91640448 (Close up of M42) Best regards, Kent |
