Default Sun Sine

Hello all.
This is my image:

It's the trajectory of the sun over 24 hours from the Antarctic station of Dome C, one picture taken every hour and assembled together.
It was a lot harder to take than it looks and took me several tries over several years. There's more background here.

This is an astonishing piece of work. It is by far the most beautiful solar trajectory mosaic I have ever seen and it is the only sequence I have ever seen from below -60 degrees. Welcome and please send more!

Kind regards
Matt

PS just saw the polar projection. Wow!

Dargaud - all the planning and misfires have paid-off beautifully. The image is stunning. I can imagine high school teachers the world over showing in their earth-science classrooms.

Hi Dargaud.

Fabulous 360 degree panorama with no visible seams.

I read your various accounts of your stays at Dome C. Particularly your account of the false signals from the AWS was very interesting. We still look at DomeC every day, from 824 km above with the EOS Aqua.

Default Thanks

Thanks all for the welcome. I've been a longtime lurker to the Bad Astro website, but until now I didn't think I had something to contribute.

Is EOS Aqua one of the sats whose ground sensors got calibrated in 2005 using ground measurements from the 'American Mast' at Dome C ?

Here's another Antarctic astronomy image: a self portrait standing on a science shelter below the incredibly bright milky way. 30s exposure is enough, that's how bright it is. Actually I'd appreciate if somebody can pinpoint objects for me on that image.

Unfortunately you won't see other astro pics from me for a while. All the electronics of my Celestron is deep fried and I expect to cry when I get the bill anytime soon.

Agree!

I shall send an email at once!

PS: Welcome to BAUT, dargaud! I found this on your website and I knew you'd fit right in: "one failure due to pranksters who finished my roll by taking shots of their hairy butts"
