Hi Paul, Looks like it was pretty cold that night. Is it high altitude ice crystals or thin clouds layers?. Neat!

Haunting, hard to to tell if its cloud or ice though ice tends to form clean halos on clear nights. Beautiful all the same.

Kind regards
Matt

Hi guys thanks. It is very cold here right now. Dan had called me to tell me about the halo so I went outside to observe it, there was a very high cloud layer at that time. Clear skies to you Paul

Wicked photo Paul,

We had a similar halo around the moon on a few nights during the last winter (it's summer here now). The ring was far too big to fit in one frame. This photograph is a mosaic of 4 images. I think you can get sun dogs too.

Paul nice shot, and Clop, your shot is very nice. Almost come color in that halo.

Wow you're right, I hadn't even noticed the colour!

Here's the same shot with the colour saturation turned right up (equally for red, green and blue to maintain the colour balance). Very pretty.
