Default Partial Solar Eclipse 7-2-08-Tasmania

Hi,

Despite total overcast all morning and a sudden southerly gale which moved the clouds on, minutes before the eclipse started the clouds parted. I was able to shoot the whole event (81 frames) with only a few blanks late towards the end.

Seen from Tasmania is was an 18% partial, enough to make it worthwhile taking shots a 2-minute intervals (automated with the Nikon D300) I just had to sit and watch that everything kept tracking OK.

Much too windy to open the main dome, so I had to set the little EQ6 up on the patio, which afforded a good view and serious protection from the gale & rain showers.

EQ6 Mount, WO Megrez 90 APO, Nikon D300, Aluminised Glass solar filter (my own from 1966)

The local newspaper rang and asked if I would let them have some pics, which I did and they made a nice colour spread across the page. I sent them 14 images the choose a selection, plus a telescope shot. All good PR for astronomy, it raises public awareness and interest.

Clear skies...

Wonderful series of shots despite the gale and congrats on the good PR. Still a very quiet sun I see.

Kind regards
Matt
