Smile Milky Way in Crux and Carina - first light with 40Dh

Here is a shot of the Milky Way in the region of the constellations of Crux and Carina. You can see the Southern Cross over on the right side (upside down). Above it is the dark cloud of dust called the Coalsack Nebula. The bright red cloud on the left side is the Carina Nebula, a hydrogen emission nebula containing the massive star Eta Carinae. South is up in this image.

Technical details – Canon 40Dh with EF-S 60mm macro lens at f/4, 11×300 second exposures @ ISO500. Dark subtraction, flat field application, registration, stacking and processing in IRIS. Total exposure time 55 minutes.

Criticism welcome.

Beautiful.

I got to see the Eta Carina nebula and many other objects in your photo, a couple years ago from New Zealand. It was cloudy my entire time in Australia, it even drizzled at Uluru in July all three days I was there! Anyway, we don't have anything to compare to this nebula in our northern sky when you consider the brilliant Milky Way it resides in. Got to see it in a 14" Newtonian. Spectacular!

Beautiful shot of this very star rich region. Have a crack at the LGM. given the shapness of your image I think it will be stunning.

Kind regards
Matt

That's how I lose files. Trying to type too early in the morning after several all nighters.

Up here it would mean you are seeing Little Green Men. That takes a lot of booze as well as being tired. At least for me!
