Default Is this the right scope

I just purchased the Orion Skyview pro 127mm Mac- Cass online last night
This is my upgrade from my first scope a celestron 80mm refractor
Did I make a good choice or has anyone had a not so good experieince with it? I am wanting to use it for astrophotography

Thanks

Yes. Maksutov-Cassegrains are renowned for high image quality and spectacular planetary imaging. Their field is somewhat narrow for deep sky, but it will still work very well. I don't think the mount will be a problem. The Synta EQ-3 looks pretty sturdy. You will need a motor drive, though.

What kind of 80mm refractor did you have before?

Thanks
The scope I ordered comes with the motor drive, I have been reading that the deep sky view is narrowish is there a way around that? Perhaps using different eyepieces?
My scope before was a Celestron Nexsky 80MM, not the best scope, but a great little scope for a beginner, I purchased the scope about 4 years ago at my local costco store. I started getting annoyed with it, because the planets looked no different in the scope than to my naked eye, especially Mars. I did see faint rings on Saturn, but these are not the results I was after. So now that I picked up some Astrophotography equipment, I am really not happy with the result my 80MM was giving me

Thanks for your help

If you want to have a wider field, you could mount the NexStar OTA on your new mount. It has a fast focal ratio and decent Synta optics.

I just called Orion as I realized they were having a special promotion, you can do installment plans for 3 months, so I cancelled my other order for the 127MM and upgraded the order to the 150MM Mak-Cass

Is the Nexstar OTA by Celestron, I will look into that

Thanks

It is a Celestron OTA. But Synta, a major Chinese manufacturer which also makes most Orion scopes, owns Celestron so most Celestron products are made by Synta in China.
