Going, going, ... not gone yet!

You did a good job picking up the color differences between the northern and southern hemishere's. I hadn't noticed that visually but it's strong on the Cassini images. I need to look again for that. Never seem to remember to.

Are the disk colors that more intense this year or just a processing difference between the two years? I didn't think I saw a difference but memory over the months can be deceiving.

I wonder how many here have seen Saturn with no ring visible?

At Hyde Memorial Observatory, every time that happens, you warn the public they won't see the ring but look for its shadow. Nearly every one looks and says something like, "Sure this is Saturn, I don't see the rings?"

Rick

Efrain,

Beautiful set of shots. Great to see the two years next to each other.

Thanks Rick and Andy, Rick on this session it was a very clear night and noticed that on my blue channel filter the rings really stood out almost white in color (siegler effect-misspelled maybe?). so when i color combine i had to manage it for not being the dominant color plus at this angle it is a little difficult to maintain the ring sharp due to being thinner so the turbulance is easily seen effecting it(wavery) this effect is the position of the ice crystals angle and shadow cast which is less so the surface looks brighter. I still have two full sets that i havent processed will see the results when processed. Clear Skies

Nice image capture of Saturn, looking forward to your next set. I'm also waiting for the winter jet stream to move further north so that the seeing improves.

Lovely comparative shots. Noted the colour difference but thought it might be conditions. Thanks for the discussion on that.

Kind regards
Matt

Default Saturn re-framed and set #2 Processed

Thanks Matt, for your kind words i'm glad you liked them.
Robert here is set #2 Processed not much of a difference and on set #3 weather degraded it a bit.

Here are the New photo sets, Thanks again to all.
Photo made it to Sky and Telescope, and the Imaging Source Astro blog.

Hi Group just a quick note, Just went over to SpaceWeather.com (March 19) and clicked on the article Saturns Vanishing Rings and read a article that included this picture that was posted here by me. http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2...mar_saturn.htm.
