Thumbs up Will winter EVER end here? Saturn and M81

Lousy weather continues here in the Seattle area. Got one really nice (and stable!) night about a week ago. First time in probably over 2.5 months I've had my observatory roof open.

Got a fairly good shot of Saturn, and M81 that I'm fairly happy with. Rain, clouds, cold and icky yuck returned the next day....

Yeah, we had a couple days in Feb and that one day last weekend as our 'spring'. I'm sick of 45 - 50 and raining as well. What a drag...

Did you take those photos in Renton? I saw the text in the photos referring to Renton. In winter, I usually head out to Rattlesnake lake for observing (on the very few days weather/moon permits it).

Great photos BTW!

Ah! Another local victim who suffers with me.
Yeah, I took all these from my backyard in Renton Highlands. My images usually come out looking kind of pink with the light pollution. After processing I can usually get some pretty good stuff out after I work on it a bit.

I've been up to Rattlesnake before, not a bad place. Stability can sometimes be a problem there I've seen in the past. I somehow do my best work from my backyard since I don't have to set up, align, reboot a few times, cuss for 10 minutes, then finally get things working. I just open the roof, boot the computer, align on one star and then I'm ready to go!

Wow, we're practically neighbors! I'm on the edge of the Highlands in Kennydale. I agree that stability at Rattlesnake can be an issue, though I figured it wasn't any worse than anywhere else on this side of the state. At least it's reasonably dark considering its proximity to Seattle.

In summer I usually go about 20 miles east of the pass to get to a darker site (near Easton).

I could just about throw my eyepiece at you! Hehe!

Rattlesnake is probably the closest place I know of that you can drive for maybe 25 minutes and see the Milky Way without using averted vision and a good imagination.

No better down here. And this weekend we actually have a chance for snow flurries in McMinnville.

Gee, Maybe you want the meter + of snow we got last Friday and Sunday. I'm still snowed in as the plows can't handle the soft roads. They just sink to their axles in the mud that's below the snow. It's melting but that's just making the roads even less usable. I need a hovercraft.

I've been clouded out every new moon since September and for at least 5 days either side. All my imaging has been with a moon in the sky it seems.

Well, nice images given the conditions. But we all live where we live, and unless we can afford to run a remote observatory, we takes what we can get...
