Default The Dark Tower in Scorpius-ED80/QHY8 H alpha

This is a challenging object for an ED80..the first time I attempted it I gave up after a couple of sub frames, because no amount of screen stretching showed the slightest hint of nebulosity.

I tried it again last weekend, extending the subframe duration and total exposure.

details

scope: ED 80
Mount:CG5 (autoguided)
Filter: Baader H Alpha (7nm)
camera :QHY8
Exposure: 20 minutes x 10
Capture:Nebulosity
Processing:Nebulosity/Photoshop

Location: Suburban (read light polluted) Sydney

thanks for looking, comments and feedback most appreciated

this object is not often imaged-I can find only four amateur images of this object on the web

Its challenging target but nonetheless a wonderful region.

Nice shot with the 80ED, looks like you caught plenty of the nebula w/ the longer exposure.

Very nice and subtle detail. Very sharp stars. Nice job!

I really should try and get colour but since I am imaging from home the skyfog limit is less than 5 minutes..so I dont know if I will be able to capture any rgb detail on this object with the small aperture telescope I have. As I said earlier I had to shoot 20 minute subs in H alpha-it is a faint object I suppose.

My options are to get an OIII filter and just shoot narrow band-or take all my gear to a dark site-or get a larger scope. All 3 options under consideration !!
