Scopin' out the moon
My wife and I don't have a discretionary income to speak of, which has put a damper on our ability to purchase all the cool stargazing equipment we've wanted over the years. Recently, however, we had a bit of luck. After an argument, (not the greatest moment of our marriage) she walked angrily out the front door, needing to walk off some frustration. She's was rightfully ****ed at her husband and just had to step outside for a bit. While walking about the neighborhood, she came upon some garbage, freshly put out by our neighbors down the street. In this pile of refuse, she found a telescope! A fully functioning, 2 inch Galileo refractor. Not the best scope, I know, but it was still free! So, a little later, she came back home with the telescope, we made up, and now we've got an instrument for gazing at the night sky. I plan to take some photos with it using my digital camera and will post them if they're any good. Inspired by the work of Antonio Cidadao over at astrosurf.com, I hope to build up a time-lapse film of the moon, photographed in daylight over the course of at least a month. From there, I'll add some kind of soundtrack. Something appropriately cosmic. Wish me luck!
Oh, and this is our first telescope. I guess you're supposed to start out with one not so good, eh? Someday, the Celestron...
