Default Scopin' out the moon

My wife and I don't have a discretionary income to speak of, which has put a damper on our ability to purchase all the cool stargazing equipment we've wanted over the years. Recently, however, we had a bit of luck. After an argument, (not the greatest moment of our marriage) she walked angrily out the front door, needing to walk off some frustration. She's was rightfully ****ed at her husband and just had to step outside for a bit. While walking about the neighborhood, she came upon some garbage, freshly put out by our neighbors down the street. In this pile of refuse, she found a telescope! A fully functioning, 2 inch Galileo refractor. Not the best scope, I know, but it was still free! So, a little later, she came back home with the telescope, we made up, and now we've got an instrument for gazing at the night sky. I plan to take some photos with it using my digital camera and will post them if they're any good. Inspired by the work of Antonio Cidadao over at astrosurf.com, I hope to build up a time-lapse film of the moon, photographed in daylight over the course of at least a month. From there, I'll add some kind of soundtrack. Something appropriately cosmic. Wish me luck!

Oh, and this is our first telescope. I guess you're supposed to start out with one not so good, eh? Someday, the Celestron...

Still learning here but as my light pollution and lack of motor drive, the moon makes a great target to play with. DSLR fixed in so no eye piece in place, the camera as the eye. Biggest thing that tripped me up at first was shake. The shots were blurred with a finger press of the shutter. So I used a remote release, timer as an option? Also, the camera had shutter lock up function which improved it no end (SLR specific?). Not had much luck with the other point and shoot camera but not had the chance to try much. I understand that you can get or as in my case (as I feel the need to make on occasion), make a device attach the camera to take the images. Weather and work and all that in the UK.

I should add I have taken a lot but deleted a lot as well. Few good uns kept.

I enjoy it a lot when I get the chance.
