Default Full scale moon

I've been experimenting lately, I've still to get a webcam to try my hand at some different styles of photography so I've been sticking with the moon, does anyone else find sometimes find they appreciate a nice full scale moon picture rather than an extreme close-up of crater formations? I can definately see the technical skill that went into them though, I don't really know what I'm getting at, I think I'm just jealous! anyway I thought I'd show you all my recent attempt of lunar photography I tried with a gadget I made to hold my camera up to the lens afocal style to eliminate vibrations from my hand

thanks to everyone on the forum for keeping my new found hobby as exciting as it was when I first got my telescope!

Ashdown,

Nice full disk shot. I have always sought to get a full disk shot, and have one, but that was a full Moon.

The gradient on the right is very strong, was there a reflection or other bit of light coming in on it? The blue is very strong too, that might be the glow from the sky.

I took a shot at dealing with the gradient -- let me know if you'd like to see it.

Keep up the imaging and let's see some more!

As someone who just started photographing the moon, I got to say, that's pretty spectacular.

I hesitated to click the thread because it promised a full scale moon--I didn't think my ISP would allow the download!

Erm there was light reflecting from a neighbours house while the sun was setting, I had to grab the shot though as the moon was dissapearing behind my house, I would have rather waited for night... but sometimes conditions aren't ideal!

It would be fantastic if you could put up your results, I'm sure everyone would appreciate seeing it, thanks for the effort

ps nice full moon pic, I like!

Personally, I very much like pictures of astronomical objects that are instantly identifiable and therefore, I really like your moon picture.

I am very much a beginner too and am waiting for the sun to get a bit more active so I can try some more solar photographs.

Andyschlei - yours is an excellent picture as well. I am just starting to play around with the B & W capability of my digital camera. It certainly offers some greater latitude.

I see, so the gradient is in the picture because it was really there! That certainly explains it. Since I image from the city, I spend a lot of time getting rid of gradients. The attached version of your shot has had most of the gradient removed in PixInsight, and final processing in Photoshop. I had a hard time with the color, but resisted the urge to desaturate the image.

Hey, thanks Ashdown. You took the data though, and that's what really counts.

I'll have to say that whenever I approach removing gradients, I think of the line from the second Star Wars trilogy, where Obi-wan says something to the effect that "Sith lords are my speciality," and he mispronounces "speciality" -- spe CI ality instead of SPE cialty. So gradient removal is my speCIality.

And yes, if there ever was any doubt, I am a geek.

Did you intend those to be two different words, in red? Speciality is pronounced spesh e AL itee, and specialty is pronounced SPESH ultee. Speciality can be British-like for specialty.

So not only a geek, but don't know the language that well.

My son and I have been trying to capture the moon without much success. I sent him a link to this post for inspiration. Nicely done Ashdown!
