Default Planetary Alignment 4,5,6th July-'08

Hi,

Here are my efforts at capturing the recent planetary alignment over 3 nights. As you can see the weather started clear the first night, thin cloud and light haze the second and total cloud the third night with some fortunate cloud breaks. Standing waiting for the clouds to clear in an icy wind at 2 degrees - is being enthusiastic/mad!!

Tripod mounted Nikon D300 with a manual Nikkor 85mm f/1.4 rated 1600 ISO for 2 seconds

PS, also caught a couple of faint meteors in the same field on the 5th.

Regards
Shevill

Very nice shots Shevill. I wanted to get the crescent Moon, Saturn, Mars, and Regulus last night but didn't have the right equipment. Job well done.

Starting from the bottom, the bluish object is the star, Regulus, in the constellation of Leo. Next comes the planet, Mars (reddish), and above is the planet, Saturn, (yellowish). In the first image, the sky was haze & cloud free.

The haze and thin clouds have diffused the point sources to produce the colour, it is the same as having stars a little out of focus, the intensity is reduced and they appear blue, red, orange, etc.

Regards
Shevill

Default Universe Today-Planetary Alignment

Hi,

Here is a link to an interesting description of what we have been photographing the past few nights.

http://www.universetoday.com/2008/07...rs/#more-15441

I have more images from last night still to process.

Regards
Shevill
