Default Gamma Cygni + IC1318 Nebula Complex

Hi All,

Here is another shot I took from my observatory in Yellow Springs, Ohio on Saturday night.

This is the Great Gamma Cygni Complex, The central star in the Northern Cross or Cygnus the Swan.

The Bright Star is Gamma Cygni, the Open Star Cluster to the left is NGC6910.

This Large Nebulae Complex is listed as a Planetary nebula in the sky5 , but this must be incorrect, as this is definitely an emission nebulae, a large star formation region located at about 3700 light years away. NGC 6910 open cluster and well known M29 Open cluster formed from this nebulae complex as well as many other nearby clusters.

The Bright Star Gamma Cygni is not part of the nebula Complex, it lies half way between us and the Nebula Complex.

This nebula complex was a challenge to process becuase there are lots of Green Oxygen mixed in with the nebula, many old film photos show the typical red orange color, but do not record the subtle oxygen line well, or it usually gets processed out. I processed this DSLR image to show both, and properly color balanced the entire image.

It took several hour to process this complex, but finally got a happy medium.

This is a 1 hour exposure, ISo 400, 15 - 4 minute subs, Modified Canon Rebel Xsi, 5" Newt. reflector, Comma Corrector.

The File is too large to post here, but here is a link to it..
