Default Astro "modeling"

Hey crew. Utterly ignorant newb chining in. I have always had a fascination with astronomy. My father was a mild hobbyist with a relatively small but decent tellescope. I remember when I was probably about 8 or so, *mumble mumble* years ago, looking through it and seeing saturn for the first time. I was hooked. I was astounded that you could look through this thing and see something that far away so clearly. I have never owned a tellescope myself, always wanted to but I'm destitutely poor, so even a modest rig is beyond my ability for the forseeable future.
What I do however have access to is good software. I am fairly proficient in 3d modeling software and graphic design software, photshop, etc. I have done modeling of imaginary celestial bodies on occaision with nice results, though nothing based on anything actualy existing, except for a decent model of saturn once.
My question, would realistic modeling of objects such as nebula, planets, exotic objects such as quasars and others be considered a legitimate art in this forum? In other words, if I were to conjure up a few models based on genuine photo's and existing knowlage, would it be accepted in this section as long as I indicated it was modeling and didn't try to pass it off as actual photography?

Speaking only for myself, I would to see some of your work. Actually if you visit any of NASA’s sites you will see different depictions of how planets or other space objects would look. I always find the work of their artist very fascinating.

The worst thing that could happen is if you posted some of your work some people might nitpick at it and depending on what you’re looking for that could be a plus or minus.

I construct computer models myself, although the models that I have are done to suggest the underlying physics of different objects. I have posted some in the ATM section which is an open invitation for attack. But that’s ok with me because I’m looking for weakness in the models.

One thing about this site is honesty comes before graciousness.

Hey Jim, thanks for the response. I am not at home right now, won't be for a few more days. But when I do get there, I'll put up a few models, again, they are pure fantasy but interesting to look at non the less. I have no problem with civil honesty. In fact, I would expect nothing less here, and it would in fact help me in creating better models, nothing wrong with good, honest and civil critique, I would welcome it. I guess I'm just trying to find my niche in here, I feel like a preschooler wandering the halls of a university, though I have an imense interest in astronomy, my knowlege is miniscule.

There would be an audience for such projects around here. It sounds facinating. I too dabble in the 3d arts. My current fad is animated 3d stuff in Blender that I clutter youtube with.

There was a 3d model of the Orion Nebula posted a while back. Google brought up a link but it's down right now. It was pretty cool.

Thanks for chiming in. I was hoping to be able to find a hole to fit in to in here. I have no degrea or background in astronomy and I will be posing a ton of questions in here, probably some pretty stupid ones at that, so it would just be nice if I could give a little something back to the community here.
I do most of my work in cinema 4d from Maxxon, tried blender and it's probably a great program, seems to do a lot, but after using cinema for so long, the work flow was pretty alien (no pun intended) to me.
