Default Moon with superzoom camera

this was made by combining and deconvolving 6 images taken with my Canon SX10 at full (20x) zoom.
It isn't particularly high resolution, but I think it's good, considering that I didn't use a telescope, and I didn't have a tripod. I put the camera on a chair and left it to take several successive shots.
I am doing astronomy at uni, and used the AIP4WIN software to quickly process the photos.

A bit over sharpened as shown by the ringing around the edge of the moon. You need to boost the contrast to bring out the detail lost in the flat image.

A full moon is like taking a picture of a face with the flash right beside the lens as many cameras are stupidly designed today. This makes for a flat face. Solution is to move the flash. Since we can't move the sun and still have a full moon we have to compensate with extensive use of contrast tools. Editors with a good set of curves tools works best. Gimp is free and should do the job. I used its big cousin Photoshop

Fake! That's not the current phase of the Moon!

Oh wait, you never said it was a picture from last night.

yes, I took those photos a month or so ago.
Also, I played around with the contrast and brightness when I got home, and it does make a huge difference.

Edit (no point making an extra post)
Here is another one from a different day, made from 10 images.
I seperated the RGB channels, combined each colour, and put the colours back together.
I also changed the contrast.

I just recently got a tripod, and it makes a HUGE difference!

(now what is the policy on posting/attaching photos?)
also here is the moon just before/after new moon, with the reflected earth light.

and also here is Jupiter with all four Galilean moons.

they may not seem very good, but it was only taken with a camera without a decent telescope (the camera has 20x optical zoom)

Ooh! Earthshine! I like Earthshine. Next wax will be the first I've been around for in ages so I might try to grab some snaps.

See our rules, linked in my sig line below...specifically #8. Basically, keep the dimensions reasonable so members with lower screen resolution don't have to scroll so much and keep the file size under 100KB as a courtesy to those who don't have a high speed connection. Also keep these limitations in mind as to the number of images you post as well.

Posting smaller thumbnail images as links to their larger versions, as you did in post #5, is an excellent and preferred practice, IMO.

Look at all that Lunar porn! I like the collage of full moon to waning crescent. Nicely laid out to. I presume that you don't actually need to have the weather be kind to you over a fortnight so you can get them all from the same cycle. It looks like that guy did though.

OK thanks.
It's just that I also use the skyscrapercity forum where it is common practice to post several MB of photos.
I have tried looking in the rules, but couldn't seem to find anything specific.

I am thinking about getting a telescope, and maybe a DSLR. can you get DSLR's that are compatible with telescopes, or would it be better for me to get a separate CCD?
