Thumbs up Jupiter's Moons - Disappearing Act, Movie Captured!

Hi All,

An unbelievable amount of work went into this little movie....it looks simple, but processing individual images took many hours.
31,288 video frames stacked in Registax as well,for 10 RGB images, each captured about 10 to 15 minutes apart.
DMK 21AF04 Firewire video Camera, 2x Barlow lens, and Optec RGB filters, & 10" SCT telescope, from my backyard Observatory in Dayton, Ohio USA.

I captured the disappearance of all of Jupiter's Moons...very rare, only a couple of times a century, were as all 4 line up perfectly in front of or behind Jupiter at the same time as seen from Earth,....the next time this will happen is 2019.

I started at around 03:30 UT when it came out from behind my neighbors tree, Callisto had already went behind Jupiter, but could still see the other 3 moons, I captured images until about 05:45 UT...that's when the other neighbors trees got in the way again...so I never got to see the second Shadow transit Jupiter(Ganymedes), but did get IO disappearing behind Jupiter, and Ganymede & Europa transiting the front of Jupiter...along with Europa's Shadow.

Still Image & Movie Legend

WI = Wesley Impact Scar(yes, something recently hit Jupiter, but is now fading)
I = Io
G = Ganymede
E = Europa
E-SH = Europa's Shadow
GRS = Great Red Spot
N = North

Watch a cool slow versions of the movie here...

John,

That's a fantastic video!

It is positively three-dimensional.

Thanks for the persevering hard work, Mr Chumack.
I have to wait to see it. Until I can get home or to a faster browser.

I am looking forward to it.

Very cool indeed, John. I know how much work goes into making these and you've done a fine job!
