Default Bad Astronomer to speak at college

‘Bad Astronomer' to speak at college

Quote:
Pseudoscientists better watch out: The Bad Astronomer will be in town this week to debunk their astronomical misconceptions.

Phillip Plait, who works in the physics and astronomy department at Sonoma State University in California, will speak twice Wednesday on the campus of Adrian College as part of the Convocation speaker series. His speech, dubbed “Mars Attacks!,” dispels a myth that an image returned by a NASA probe about 30 years ago proved there is intelligent life on Mars. The story has found its way into popular culture, having been mentioned in such movies and television shows as “Mission to Mars” and “The X-Files.”

“It's basically just a big steaming load of garbage,” said Plait from his California office.

The link had that information, though I realize now it would have been a good idea to include the location in the thread title.

The link only requires registration because the article's been archived. It was accessible when I posted it. If you want to read about the event, you can do so here.
