Default Bad Astronomy Wallpapers

The Bad Astronomy website is great. However, the website has one serious omission: there are no computer wallpapers. So I decided to make some of my own. I hope you like them.

The resolutions are what I think are the most common computer resolutions today. If you are using a monitor with a resolution other than one of these, let me know and I can make additional resolutions. I still have the extremely high-resolution originals, so I can make bigger versions easily. Any other suggestions regarding the wallpapers are also welcome.

The first one should be pretty obvious. It is based on BA's book. It is actually from a scan I made of the cover of my copy. I seperated the text, repositioned it, and added a few things to make it suitable as a wallpaper. I had to change some colors where text crossed color boundaries.

Bad Astronomy Book Wallpaper: 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x800 (widescreen), 1280x960

The next is a parody of Hoagland and his followers. It consitutes definitive proof from Opportunity that intelligent life had made it to Mars before us.

Bad Astronomy Mars Kilroy Wallpaper: 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x800 (widescreen), 1280x960

The final is a parody of the "moon hoax" theorists. Once again, it is definitive photographic proof of their opinion that the Apollo 11 moon landings were faked.

Bad Astronomy Apollo 11 Moon Hoax Wallpaper: 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x800 (widescreen), 1280x960

Enjoy!

The third one is goofy since its Apollo eleven, but is shows a rover near a crater, and Apollos 11 through 14 didn't have rovers. I don't think my kids would get that joke though.

I like the Mars Kilroy one best.

Talking Kilroy on Mars....

Black Cat. Nice job. A sense of the absurd is always welcome.

Haha, just found this! Definitely the third one would be my fave!

I had no idea the whole thing was an April Fool's joke! So, that means, Neil, Buzz and co. were twiddling their thumbs for 3 1/2 months whilst the whole shebang went into post production I guess!

Very good mate!

Heh. I'm glad he did; I missed this thread when it came out! BlackCat, those are GREAT! I'll have to plug them on my blog. Since they're on Photobucket I don't have to worry about bandwidth issues either. Is that OK with you?

I just found this today and I also love it!

Apollo Hoax is now set as my wallpaper. I imagine the others will cycle through as well...

Ha! I just noticed that on the Apollo 11 shot the scene is 3,141,592--the first seven digits of pi! That makes me laugh.
I'm just trying to decide if I want these or my HAL 9000 wallpaper.

Damn I missed that reference! Now I notice a certain transcendental 'e' on the 'Take' as well!

What's your HAL9000 wallpaper btw? (that's the name of the the PC I'm typing on )
