Default Bad Astronomy Main Site Changes

Just noticed you've added the extra links to the main site at the top Phil.
I'd say that's a definite improvement. Still think they need to be more obvious though

I agree...

Seems pretty straightforward...I guess it could be more obvious if the buttons were bigger and flashing red!!

Seriously though, I think that someone directed to bad astronomy who was looking for (lets say) a movie review would "now" have no trouble finding it.

Yeah, I guess I should be careful of what I wish for

I spent about four hours yesterday trying to add a left-hand menu like on the old site, but it was extremely difficult due to the way the template I use is organized. I'm still looking into it; I would really rather have a menu on the left than a limited set of buttons up top.

Actually I'm not sure the menu on the left as well as the right would be, uh, right. The blog might look a bit squished. But for now, I think what you've done is cool

It is now 3 columns, a menu of BA stuff on the left, the blog content down the middle, and miscellaneous links on the right. I think it works.

Phil,

Unfortunately, the menu on the right side of your blog is vertically aligned to the bottom of the page, as viewed in Internet Explorer 6. Here are some screenshots of the problem:

Apart from this minor flaw, I really like the new design. Keep up the good work!

Ian.

Interesting, I don't get that problem in IE6, nor do I suspect do the majority of other people. Probably a browser setting that maybe needs to be tweaked?

I confirm your last two posts. The three columns worked at first, for me, IE6. Then some days later the right column content traveled way down the page. I don't use it. I didn't care.

Me neither, Firefox all the way down (until it hits turtles)

That weirdness was due to a dropped comment tag in my sidebar. I fixed it. :-)

BA Plait (not BA Baracus, but Mr P), any chance you could put the time as well as the date stamp on your blog entries (like it does for the comments on them)? At the moment it can be difficult to identify even the day since many of your readers are hours apart
