Default Borderline Bad Astronomy in Frank & Ernest comic

Why do I read Frank & Ernest? I don't know. But, I do and June 7th's had a brush with bad astronomy.

Frank, or is it Ernest -- who knows? -- looking at the starry sky, says: "Do you realize the light from that star left over a hundred thousand years ago and it only just got here?"

It would be tough to resolve a particular star that is 100-thousand lightyears away, like one near the other side of the galaxy.

But, to be generous, I suppose they could have not resolved "that star" naked-eye, but have been talking about some described star, like the farthest star in our galaxy, or the nearest star in the Large Magellanic Cloud, or perhaps they had a viewing instrument just out of frame.

Wonderquest.com: Stars too far to see

Quote:
The farthest star that we can see under the best of conditions is probably about 4,075 light years away.
At least the strip had some astronomy content.

Yeah...correcting comic's-page astronomy is borderline nit-picking

Perhaps "that star" was a supernova.

A little known story (courtesy of my business partner Donna, of course), is that Delaware's signatory of the Declaration of Independence, Caesar Rodney, was not planning to make Delaware the first state. He was actually delivering pizza to the Constitutional Convention. The delegates were hungry and knocked off for lunch, and Caesar Rodney was siezed the opportunity to slip in and sign the Declaration ahead of everybody else.

Well, that ought to be far enough off topic.

Under good conditions I can see the Andromeda Galaxy. 2.5 million light years.
