Default Plait versus Colbert: Apollo

OK. I'm spreading the word, to this rabble here. Maybe it will help.

BA Blog: Stephen Colbert: On Notice!

Listen up, BAUTsters...

Quote:
Stephen Colbert: I am calling you out. Denigrate Apollo, and you’re gonna have a snootful of me, mister.

Spread the word: I want Mr. Colbert himself to hear about this, somehow, some way. Bears are [no] longer his Number 1 threat. I am.
Features an entertaining video critique of recent Colbert interview of Michael Shermer, and lots of talkin' smack.

OMGoodness, you mean there are websites attached to this forum?!!

I'd love to see Phil on the show. Watched the Schermer one recently. Branson was a good one as well

My sound won't work can someone put up a transcript.

It would be so great if Phil got on the show!

OK, for the cause. Phil's words (not video inserts):

Quote:
Plait: Steven Colbert, I'm calling... you... out. My name is Phil Plait and I'm an astronomer and I run the BadAstronomy website. I defend science against people who attack it -- and that brings me to your August 21st show. You had on, as a guest, Michael Shermer from "Skeptic" and the two of you were talking about science and, well, this is what happened.
[Shermer and Colbert]
Plait: That's why we never went there? Oh, man, them's fightin' words. I can't let that stand. I am putting you on notice. Mr. Colbert, if I had a spacesuit glove, I would slap you across the face with it. I'm willing to defend the Apollo moon landings on the date and time of your choosing, live on your show. But, I better warn you, I've got friends like my bud Buzz here, and he knows how to handle people who think the Apollo moon landings were faked.
[Sibrel and Aldrin]
Plait: So, Mr. Colbert, do you have the space balls to take me on?
Errors mine.

I can't imagine that it will end the way Phil is thinking. Stephen Colbert never fights facts with facts, and never allows facts to get in the way of his stage persona's gut feelings.

If Colbert the writer can find a way to turn this into a larger socio-political statement, then he might well engage Phil in conversation, otherwise, I expect this to go unheeded.

I think that Phil is kidding. I think he and Colbert together will be hilarious.

I think anyone who takes Mr. Colbert seriously needs to wiki the word "parody"

And something tells me Phil knows that

a better way to go about it would be to have the BA on at the same time as another guest who says we never went to the moon to debate it..

Like that other guy did by citing Verner Von Braun as an evil Nazis war criminal? (Which some peple believe he was)

It's largely because he probably was, at least the Nazi war criminal part. Evil is a value judgement I shall not herein make (I'd have to study him a lot more, though I will say he was kind of a jerk), but the argument for war criminal is there--and the Nazi part, I think, is indisputable. Member of the Nazi Party, and all that.

Colbert should do it (have Phil on). Colbert likes guests who are mentally quick, people who can come up with some witty repartee.

Looks like I've been banned from commenting on the BA's blog entries. I tried to post a reply which referenced the fact Phil being on Colbert had been suggested back in January, had no obscenities, ad homs, or anything else of that ilk, and got the spam notice. The comment was never posted.

Oh well, probably for a good reason (which I can't seem to figure out).

The BA's had a lot of problems with his spam filter. I doubt it's anything personal.

It seems to have it in for me though, no matter what he tries
