I can't imagine that it will end the way Phil is thinking. Stephen Colbert never fights facts with facts, and never allows facts to get in the way of his stage persona's gut feelings.

If Colbert the writer can find a way to turn this into a larger socio-political statement, then he might well engage Phil in conversation, otherwise, I expect this to go unheeded.

It's largely because he probably was, at least the Nazi war criminal part. Evil is a value judgement I shall not herein make (I'd have to study him a lot more, though I will say he was kind of a jerk), but the argument for war criminal is there--and the Nazi part, I think, is indisputable. Member of the Nazi Party, and all that.

Colbert should do it (have Phil on). Colbert likes guests who are mentally quick, people who can come up with some witty repartee.

Looks like I've been banned from commenting on the BA's blog entries. I tried to post a reply which referenced the fact Phil being on Colbert had been suggested back in January, had no obscenities, ad homs, or anything else of that ilk, and got the spam notice. The comment was never posted.

Oh well, probably for a good reason (which I can't seem to figure out).

It seems that Phil "The Astronomator" Plait has terrified another victim into submission with Stephen Colbert admitting to Jim Lovell that indeed the moonlandings were real. Maybe we could start a new form of WWE here after all. It sure would be entertaining, as long as the HP's would follow the script for entertainment sake like Phil and Stephen, lol.

From what I understand, being on Colbert's show can be really disconcerting. Apparently, he shows up at the studio in character and will not stop being in character until after the taping.

If you go on the show, please make reference to his character on Harvey Birdman at Law! (ex. "How can anyone take someone seriously who routinely appears on a cartoon show? Especially when the 'character' they play is a one-eyed narcissist?")

I just watched this bit a few minutes ago. Lovell was very congenial, and Colbert conceded based on market results from Lovell's movie outperforming some other film last week. Nice going Phil!
