Default Dark matter is for WIMPs

Yesterday BA blogged about WIMPs and the CDMS lab. This lab, as the post indicates is nearly a half mile down in an iron mine. What wasn't mentioned is this is an abandoned mine, now run as a Minnesota State Park. During the summer tours of both the mine and the physics lab are offered. The lab does more than look for WIMPs. It started life as a neutrino lab. That research is still ongoing. It also does proton decay research. Only problem some folk have is the half mile ride in a rather small, dimly lit, mine elevator. It's very confining and takes 3 minutes. The lab is handicapped accessible but the mine is not. It's well worth a visit if you are in northeast Minnesota.

How fun. How far is it from the biggest ball of twine? For a short time, there was a neutrino lab in a similar mine shaft in Park City. There was talk about extending the tunnel the rest of the way through the mountain, and linking ski resorts...they wisely connected at the mountain tops, instead.
