Something will probably change it's trajectory and cause it to collide with earth. And Phil will forever be known as the cause of a natural disaster.

I think it would rock to have the asteroid that destroys civilization as we know it named after you.

Let's hope not. Then the rabid cultists will come after us for being Phil's friends.

There are no Illuminati. Well, unless you live in a Tomb Raider movie.

Is that One-Six-Five-Three-Four-Seven, or 165,347? When spoken aloud.

Philplait is in a near 42:13 resonance with Jupiter, so it makes a cool pattern in a frame rotated with Jupiter's period.
Yellow (center): Sun
Gray: Mercury
White: Venus
Blue/Gray: Earth & Moon
Orange: Mars
Green: Philplait
Magenta: Jupiter (tracing an oval around its average position in a rotating frame designed to keep it still)

Cool! It looks like Philplait's orbit is some sort of woven something!

Congratulations Phil Plait.

You deserve this honour very much & its a name that will stay for ever. As long as there are humans, your name will live on with the asteroid.

Well done, you deserve it.

JPL Orbital diagram & elements here. Apparently the asteroid is one kilometre in diameter.

Also I will see if I can get a feature named for you perhaps on Mercury or one of the Saturn moons, as more craters' hills, etc are found & will need naming. I often communicate with JPL & APL, so I will put a word in.

Andrew Brown.

Congratulations, Phil Plait. Now everyone can look up to you ...

Well deserved.
