Free DVD with 'Jack' magazine
I don't know how its circulation is worldwide, but here in the UK there's a men's magazine called Jack, and the latest issue came with a free DVD. It has a rather sensationalist title, being called 'How Nazis Won The Space Race', and a truly awful cover photo of Aldrin saluting a Nazi flag on the Moon rather than the American flag. However, I strongly advise anyone who sees this in the shops not to let this put you off, and buy the magazine!
The DVD contains two one-hour documentaries, the first if which is about Wernher von Braun and his part in the space program. Despite the title on the cover of the DVD, the documentary does not share that name, and the Nazis are only mentioned in the context of that part of von Braun's life when he was working in Germany during the war. Once the story reaches the point where he was taken to the US no further mention is made of his connections to the Nazis. Instead, we get a great documentary filled with fantastic footage of his life and the development of Apollo. The only bit that made me wince was the narrator persistently pronouncing his name 'Werner' rather than the correct German pronunciation 'Verner'.
The second documentary is all about spacewalking, and focuses mainly on shuttle EVAs, but it also contains some footage of Gemini and Apollo.
And this comes free with a magazine that costs £3. Buy it.
The magazine's rubbish though.
