Well, if you'd like to discuss NASA, it would be more helpful to link to NASA information. We have no way of knowing if these pictures have been edited by third parties, or if their "NASA" quotes are accurate or fabricated.

If you'd like to discuss Mars, I'd suggest the "Martian Chronicles" forum on this website.

i thought this was the only place for conspiracies. I didn't even remember the forum "Martian Chronicles." i got so many responses on the other post so i thought it would be a cool follow-up post.

but to get back to the ` evidence ` the images are freaking JPEGs thats not " RAW" never was never will be

i am sure that a explaination for the " missing chunks" of NASA images has been posted

IIRC its due to framing / tiling of composite images

but the glaring occams razor response is " DO NOT RELEASE A JPEG WITH BLACKED OUT SECTIONS TO THE PUBLIC "


press and public releases are what NASA want people to see - the apollo photos demonstrate this most clearly

ie in 1969 all whe ` great unwashed ` had were " press releases " the cropped and selected edited highligts of the mission

no one wanted to see the blurred ` ooops ` of aldrins feet or a blank frame

but now in 2004 i can down load a pictire of a window of a apollo craft that shows nothing of merit - it is out of focus and shows nothing that will excite the general public

OTOH aldrins " jump salute " is what people want to see on thier coffe table

i realise that far more tech savy people value such ` junk `shots as a control reference for the photo record of apollo

I looked at the mirrors link and it is clear to me, as someone who works with radiative transfer (light) every day, that this person does not know what he is talking about. I don't have time right now to go into all that's wrong with this one topic, but I will tonight.

He's another good example of the hoax proponent deception. From the link,

Later he does state that it is a computer generated image, but that's artistic license.

The place where I lost it is when he looked for a pic where the sun was across the mirror from the camera, then complained that the mirrored surface was "White, not blue!"

And I HAVE seen a shadow fall across a mirror, so there. (Much less a prepared aluminium surface that, from what I gather, is at least a little of an anisotropic reflector).

Anyone point out to the poor lad that if Nasa was trying to hide the "fact" that the moon was covered with green grass, daisies, and cute little bunny rabbits (sounds a bit like Teletubbies, don't it?) they could find much easier solutions than tweaking the actual rover pictures and releasing them to the general public! Heck, just sneak out to Meteor Crater with a cheap camera, snap a few rolls and tell them it was Mars.

Hello johnl285, sorry, I haven't been keeping up with things. I've been rather busy at work and such.

The Martian Chronicles forum would be the proper forum for this thread. While Lunar Conspiracies sounds good for conspiracy theories, it is mostly for discussing Apollo. The Martian Chronicles is for all things Mars, including possible conspiracies about it.

That website has been discussed over there. I don't know what all has been dicussed (I'm not keeping up), but I do recall discussion of the "missing" data where the successive images get cropped on the top, supposedly to represent sky. From what I recall of the discussion, the effect grows larger as the exposure time for the frame grows longer. This is because the filters for each frame are in different wavelengths, and take longer to pick up. During that time, the pixels at the top of the frame are getting saturated on exposure. There was some discussion on what was actually causing the saturation, that I don't recall. The essence of the "shrinking crater wall" is really just successive pixel saturation growing in longer exposed frames. Nothing mysterious or malicious or intentional.

The heart of the matter is the poster of that site is taking anything not 100% perfect and assuming it is due to malicious activity at NASA rather than openmindedly searching for what could cause the effects in question.

I don't really have time to dig into it any further, but others on the Martian Chronicles forum can give some good responses.

Maybe someone should email Phil to move this thread?</
