I thought I'd heard it all...but someone mentioned one method of "proof" for the moon hoax that I wasn't familiar with. He claims there's an "outtake" that surfaced of a lighting fixture falling onto the moon's surface, "proving" that it was faked. I've asked him for more information and I'm waiting to hear back, but I thought I'd go ahead and ask here if anyone knows what he's talking about.

I think I'll have him convinced if I can debunk this one last piece of evidence. This guy is a talk radio host so I really want him on our side, which he is, mostly. It's just this one piece he has a question about. So, does anyone know what footage this is?

I don't have a link handy, but the video he's referring to is a joke. It was made within the last few years but was shot to look as if it were a "rehearsal" for a faked "giant leap".

It is decidedly not NASA in origin.

My understanding is that the guy responsible for this died later of some medical condition .

The big clue that this is a spoof is the comment "Sorry Mr Gorsky" a reference to an urban legend told here on the Snopes site

The waybackmachine has the moontruth page from 2003. Note the "the above is all ********" link.

The image on that inner page is missing, but Google located this link.

It is disappointing that having created a great hoax video they let the explanation page expire. Perhaps Jay or someone should create a special debunking page just to archive the explanation even though it would carry less weight than a page by the original producers.

There were numerous clues, both intentional and otherwise, that identified that clip as a modern hoax. The notable intentional clue was the reference to "Mr. Gorsky".

A quick google search for moontruth.mpg returned a link to the site AmishGeek (dot) com (sic) that not only has the clip in question, but just about every other funny video you can think of.

Yes. And it shows how easily these folks fall for anything, no matter how absurd, as long as it supports their silly ideas. While they scrutinize anything that people bring forward as proof the moon landings really happened, they take anything at face value that looks like proof of a fake without asking second questions or checking their sources.

Another nice example is an image done by David Harland, where he combined two Apollo 12 images, to show a third astronaut on the moon. The image was published in the Fun Pictures Section of the Apollo Lunar Surface Journal some years ago.
I've seen this picture on many pro-moonhoax pages as proof of a fake.
Anyone who had really looked a little bit into the Apollo stuff would have recognized this picture as being a composite from two well published photos, AS12-48-7071 and AS12-49-7278.
